Well, I thought, how about here? A recent addition of a Great Pyrenees dog became our latest challenge. It’s all white, so there were some pretty clever names tossed out. I’ll break this out into dog types, because we have certainly had our share of working farm dogs.

The recent female Great Pyrenees addition is in no hurry to be named. It’s not a bad thing, I hear they’re not good to coming when you call their name, anyway! The Great Pyrenees tend to be white, so exploring white dog names:

By converting the body to a hen house that was on a old trailer frame, we could move it around in the pasture.

As you can see from our video, it’s parked next to some hay bales. We didn’t factor in how dangerous it was putting the hen house there (too much cover for predators). Yes, we did lose a few chickens.

This summer, we hope to add a chicken run to give them some more needed projection from racoon and coyotes.

I had my choice between two winter waterers for chickens at the local farm store. They were both mostly plastic materials. In the review video, I point out the handle, how to fill it, and tips on setting it up for the chickens (and you get to see in side the chicken coop!).

Our chickens, of course, do not free roam in the winter, it’s too cold here in northeast Iowa. That is one reason that I went with this brand of API Heated Poultry Waterer #HPW33 because it was rated 35℉ to -5℉. Believe me, we do see well below zero here.

I paid more for it than I wanted, but I am glad I did. I only have to change the water about every 5 days for a dozen chickens in the winter. It holds 3 gallons. I should also say, that I can handle carrying 3 gallons, about 10 yards from the house. We have a huge summer waterer, and that’s too heavy for me to carry.

The cows attract flies and insects, which the cowbirds love. They’ve always been on our farm, but they seem to have be a more consistent phenomenon in recent years. Enjoy this video!
