I’ve been using this electric API heated chicken/poultry waterer for a few months now. It even made it through -30 wind chill temps. It’s working out well, and I wanted to share my thoughts.
I had my choice between two winter waterers for chickens at the local farm store. They were both mostly plastic materials. In the review video, I point out the handle, how to fill it, and tips on setting it up for the chickens (and you get to see in side the chicken coop!).
Our chickens, of course, do not free roam in the winter, it’s too cold here in northeast Iowa. That is one reason that I went with this brand of API Heated Poultry Waterer #HPW33 because it was rated 35℉ to -5℉. Believe me, we do see well below zero here.
I paid more for it than I wanted, but I am glad I did. I only have to change the water about every 5 days for a dozen chickens in the winter. It holds 3 gallons. I should also say, that I can handle carrying 3 gallons, about 10 yards from the house. We have a huge summer waterer, and that’s too heavy for me to carry.
You can find this at your local farm store (support them!), but it’s also on
